Description:

Come make music with other young musicians! Students will perform with two different ensembles learning the process of collaborating with other musicians including concepts like: teamwork, balance, group rehearsals, improvising, and more. Students will learn multiple pieces, at least one in a small ensemble, and several in our large full ensemble to share at the end of the week. For example, a percussion student would learn a piece in percussion ensemble alongside other percussionists, and also participate in our full ensemble. Students will work on a variety of styles of music across genres for a fun, music-filled week!

This is a full-day in-person camp. Capacity is limited. 

All students will perform and impress family and friends at our Final Showcase on Friday, June 14th at 2:00 PM.

Previous Experience:

Students should have at least 2 years prior instruction on their instrument. 

Placement Audition:

A brief placement audition is required for enrollment in Little Mission Band Camp. Auditions are only to help us gauge current ability and assign parts and music appropriate for age and prior experience.

Audition Requirements:

Upon enrolling, students should submit an audition video containing:

• A brief introduction. (“Hi, I’m Bob & I play the saxophone! The pieces I will be playing are . . .”)
• Two brief, contrasting, solo excerpts of your choice.
  • Excerpts should showcase ability in expression, articulation, dynamics, rhythm, and tuning.
  • Percussionists should perform excerpts on two contrasting instruments to showcase versatility (drum kit, snare, mallets, accessory percussion, etc.).
• Total length of your audition video should not exceed 5 minutes in length.
  • Video taken on a phone or mobile device is completely fine – nothing fancy. 😉
• Deadline for video submission: Monday, May 27th, 2024
  • Submit your video via email or cloud service (GoogleDrive, Dropbox, iCloud, etc.). 

*Students who have taken this camp before do not need to audition.

• Session 3 – Wednesday, June 12th, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• Session 4 – Thursday, June 13th, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• Session 5 – Friday, June 14th, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

Camp Showcase:

*Session 5 is the Final Showcase! Family and friends welcome to an in-person showcase starting at 2:00 PM!

This camp is for students entering Grades 4 – 10. Students will be broken into appropriate age groups during camp.

Materials:

Students should bring each day:

• Their instrument.
• A 3-ring binder for music.
• A snack and/or bag lunch for our midday break. 
• A refillable water bottle. 

Extended Care:

Extended care is available from 8:00 – 9:00 AM and 3:00 – 6:00 PM on Monday through Friday of camp for an additional $15 per hour per child. Extended care hours will be logged, and billed at conclusion of camp.
