6 Tips for Recital Preparation!
Studio Recitals are almost here!
Everyone has been working so hard both in their lessons and at home to prepare for sharing all we’ve learned with each other. We’re really excited to hear the result of everyone’s hard work!
The weeks leading up to a recital can provide some of the most valuable learning opportunities for a young musician. Because of this, we wanted to share some tips on recital preparation for parents.
Parents, in the weeks leading up to our recitals, you can:
- Make sure your young musician attends Studio Classes! These classes are the perfect environment to practice performance in a fun and supportive space!
- Be a ‘pretend audience’ at home. Sit down regularly and enjoy some practice performances. Make sure your musician announces their piece & the composer’s name, and takes a bow. It’s great performance practice to play for even just one set of undistracted eyes.
- Remind your young musician to visit their instrument frequently throughout the week to practice their recital piece. Regular practice is the most effective way of ensuring a successful recital performance.
- Offer lots of encouragement as they practice. Let them know just how excited you are to watch them share their music!
- Ask them to play for friends and family who stop by your home or set up opportunities for others to hear her play (invite grandparents over, have them play for the neighbors when they stop by). Not only does this provide great performance practice, but it also shows your young musician how much you value their hard work.
- Find a way to mark this event as something special. Selecting a special outfit to wear to the recital, crafting home-made invitations to family friends to attend, or buying them flowers all contribute to showing them that the performance is meaningful, important and valued. It doesn’t have to be anything grand . . . often simply a heart-felt note left by the piano is all it takes.
We’re so fortunate to have such a great group of young musicians here at Little Mission Studio! Everyone’s hard work is so inspiring not only to us as faculty, but to all the other students here as well, and we’re truly looking forward to hearing everyone’s performances!
